Fullerton, founded by George and Edward Amerige in 1887 and named after George H. Fullerton, is a city located in the northern part of Orange County, California. At different times, throughout the history of the city, it has been an agricultural center, the site of petroleum extraction, a transportation center, and manufacturing center. Today, the city′s top employers are educational institutes, such as California State University, Fullerton and Fullerton College, and the medical industry, such as the Saint Jude Medical Group. Besides the two colleges previously mentioned, there are several other schools, both public and private, located in the city, including five high schools, three junior highs, and seventeen elementary schools. There are also several private and catholic schools in Fullerton, such as Rosary High School and the Berkley School, Academics and Arts.
Fullerton is known for its music scene. In fact it was the center for the Orange County Hardcore Punk music scene, and groups such as No Doubt, The Offspring and Lit all got their start in Fullerton. Along with being a center for music, the city is also home to many other cultural and recreational activities, including the Muckenthaler Cultural Center, The Fullerton Museum Center, Craig Regional Park, Maverick Theater, The Fullerton Arboretum, and the Brea Dam Recreational Area.
